1. Overview
The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II) and its associated rules set standards designed to protect investors and promote transparent, orderly markets across the European Economic Area, with equivalent standards applied in the United Kingdom. Where these standards apply to the services we provide, we act in accordance with them. This page summarises our approach; it does not replace the detailed disclosures you receive as a client.
2. Client categorisation
We categorise clients as retail clients, professional clients or eligible counterparties. Your category determines the level of regulatory protection you receive. We tell you your category, and you may request a different categorisation, which we will consider in line with the applicable rules; a change may reduce the protections available to you.
3. Suitability and appropriateness
Where we provide investment advice or discretionary management, we assess the suitability of our recommendations against your knowledge and experience, financial situation and investment objectives, including your capacity for loss and risk tolerance. Where we provide other services, we assess appropriateness as required.
4. Best execution
When we execute or transmit orders, we take all sufficient steps to obtain the best possible result for you, taking into account price, cost, speed, likelihood of execution and settlement, size, nature and other relevant factors. Our order execution arrangements are available on request.
5. Costs and charges
We provide clear, prior disclosure of the costs and charges associated with our services and the financial instruments concerned, together with periodic statements, so that you can understand the cumulative effect of costs on your returns.
6. Conflicts and inducements
We identify and manage conflicts of interest and do not accept or retain third-party inducements that would conflict with our duty to act in your best interests. See our Conflicts of Interest policy for more detail.
